Outreach to Somalis

Rajo is the Somali word for “Hope” 

Purpose: 

Rajo Ministries empowers the Church to extend hope and love to the Somali community by assisting churches to develop ministries that utilize leadership and volunteers from their congregations.

Benefits for the Church

  • Learn about Somali culture and receive training for Muslim ministry and presenting the Gospel through narrative
  • Assistance with program development (e.g., setting up a program that builds bridges and friendships through activities)
  • Opportunity to reach the “world at your door” through cross-cultural friendships with Somalis in your neighborhood

  • Develop friendships with Americans
  • Learn new skills and enjoy activities common to all cultures
  • Help with practical needs

Current and Planned Program Activities:

  • Quilting and cooking activities for women
  • Men’s outreach ministry through sports and other activities
  • Youth activities and mentoring
  • Written and audio translation into Somali

These activities are occurring in conjunction with churches in Burnsville, Minneapolis, Eden Prairie and St. Cloud.

Director’s bio:

Sherry Mohamed is from Somalia. Since coming to the U.S., she completed a M.Div. degree from Asbury Theological Seminary. As such, she is uniquely positioned to reach out with understanding to Somali Muslims and share what God has done in her life. Sherry has been actively working with Somalis in the Twin Cities for the last four years. She seeks to work and partner with churches reaching out to Somalis with the love of God.
