PY 2009-10

Refugee Reception and Placement (R&P)

World Relief Minnesota (WRM) assists refugees in their adjustment to America during their first months of arrival in the country. Resettlement services include welcoming families at the airport when they first arrive, addressing medical needs, finding housing, helping them apply for Social Security, economic assistance, school registration and English Language classes, and explaining social adjustment and acculturation issues. In 2009, WRM resettled 243 newly arrived refugees. Funding for Reception and Placement services comes from the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) [Department of State] in Washington, DC and is administered by the World Relief National office in Baltimore. WRM began resettling refugees in 1988.

Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA)

A public/private partnership that began in 2004, for which WRM administers the provision of cash assistance benefits to refugees. WRM serves 90 clients a year through this program. Funding comes from the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), [Dept. of Health and Human Services] in the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, DC and is administered by the Minnesota DHS, Refugee Programs Office.
